Welcome to the
1st/2nd Grade "Primary" Program

Parents who visit Silverwood School’s first and second grade Primary program often say, “I wish I could have attended a school like this!” They value and often sacrifice to give their child a school experience where the magic and joy of childhood with all its lessons, both academic and social, are so highly valued. With our small class sizes, teachers have the time to get to know each and every child. These close connections are part of the essential foundation of an education at Silverwood, as is the collaboration among teachers and parents.

The youngest students at our Montessori-inspired school learn in classrooms located in “The Barn,” and, supervised by our team of dedicated teachers, their learning extends onto the pastoral 18-acre wooded campus, into our organic gardens, two greenhouses, and “Grotto” art studio. Field trips are also part of our curriculum.

This is hands-on work and play where students learn about the world, themselves, and others in a multiplicity of ways – by choosing from among various science projects in their “integrated studies” class, by venturing outdoors to measure the circumference of an ancient heritage tree, by immersing themselves in their favorite books in our Reading Castle, by working cooperatively to build a fort at recess or to take turns on the swings, by writing a story using a computer or by learning new Spanish vocabulary through a song.

Kindness, generosity of spirit and resiliency are key character traits we value, nurture, celebrate and build upon in our Primary community as we learn together.
