Stephanie Punt Silverwood Class of 2000
Stephanie Punt graduated from Silverwood in 2000 before
attending Central Kitsap Junior High, Central Kitsap High School, and the
UW. Her favorite Silverwood
memories include her senior trip to the Olympic Park Institute, “surrounded by
old western hemlocks and western red cedars.” Stephanie’s experience at OPI showed her “how important the
interactions among various species in an environment are.”
Stephanie is currently a senior at the University of
Washington and a student research assistant in the radiology department at the
UW Medical Center. She will
graduate in the spring of 2010 with a B.S. in biology (ecology, evolution, and
conservation), a B.A. in biochemistry, and a minor in environmental resource
management. She is currently
applying to medical schools and her current research endeavors include sarcoma
research at the UW Medical Center for the past three years and most recently
King Penguin research with the biology department.
Stephanie published an article in the journal Nuclear
Medicine Communications entitled “Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission
tomography in leiomyosarcoma: imaging characteristics” which examines the viability of reliable,
noninvasive means to predict tumor behavior in patients with a rare form of
cancer, leiomyosarcoma.
Stephanie spends her free time “skiing (alpine and telemark), volunteering at Children’s Hospital and the
Northwest Sarcoma Foundation, learning languages, traveling, and learning all
that I can about everything that I can.”
Stephanie said, “Silverwood gave me the inspiration and
foundation from which I have been able to pursue anything that I put my mind
to. The strong background
Silverwood provided has made my education and personal pursuits more
obtainable.”
