Silverwood alum Andrew Hughes is running for Congress! Andrew graduated from Silverwood in 1998 and says, “Silverwood was the foundation of everything – my love of knowledge, sense of community, desire to be involved, and my love of learning which I have applied to everything in my life.”
Andrew credits his Silverwood years with teaching him to value open dialogue and communication, and states, “the sense of experiential knowledge taught at Silverwood is unique, it’s a gift.”
Andrew remembers doing task sheets in his Silverwood primary years, just as students do today, and says he is an organized perpetual list-maker to this day. He also has wonderful memories of a class trip to Washington D.C. and a tour of the capital, meeting congressman Norm Dicks, and visiting Williamsburg. The seeds for civic involvement were planted during this experience.
After Silverwood, Andrew went on to Poulsbo Junior High, and North Kitsap High School. He received his law degree from Seattle University and returned to the University of Washington for a master’s degree (LLM) in tax law. Andrew speaks three languages, and he has lived, studied and traveled abroad throughout Europe, Australia and the Middle East. He is a member of the Washington Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
