June 2009, the graduated 6th class of Silverwood School attended a week-long camp at the Teton Science Schools in Jackson, Wyoming. The quality educational program in Grand Teton National Park utilizes the wild lands of Yellowstone National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest and the National Elk Refuge. They foster leadership skills to build awareness of sustainability issues. We leaned about geology, ecology, weather, plants and animal adaptations, we left the program with a deep understanding and appreciation for the ecology and unique natural history of the Greater Yellowstone Geo-ecosystem. Teton Science Schools’ model for experiential learning fosters hands-on/minds-on learning in the outdoors. The professional staff adapted their programs to meet the goals of our program.
